About Angela

Alder Grove is lucky to have Angela Erickson interning with us while she works on her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Aurora University.  Angela completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Level Education from Illinois State University, has taught a wide range of students for many years (pre-K to eighth grade) and has run a home-based childcare center for the past 13 years.  In therapy, she works with people of all ages and has particular passions for helping children process “big emotions” and supporting people of all ages navigate life transitions.  Angela loves to support children through Play Therapy, as it provides a natural setting where trust can be built and establishes a foundation of therapy as a positive, enjoyable, and helpful experience.  She also uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness-based approaches.  When not working or taking classes, Angela stays busy with her very musical family (her husband and three daughters), exploring outside, spending time with friends, and listening to music and podcasts.  She loves rainy days, singing, and “collecting way too many cozy blankets and house plants.”  Angela’s hope is “that every client I encounter feels seen and heard. I believe that each client really is the expert of their life, and my role is to provide support and encouragement along the way. It is such a privilege to be invited into my clients’ lives through this role, and I do not take it lightly. My favorite quote is actually from a Tom Petty song, “You belong somewhere you feel free”.’
