The Power of Introverts

June 3, 2017

When one thinks of introverts, power isn’t normally the first thought that comes to mind. Words like wall flower, quiet, and shy are more likely to arise. A few successful introverts are Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg J.K. Rowling, and Warren Buffet, just to name a few.  Yes, they’re all introverts! By definition, an introvert is someone that turns inwards for their emotions and stimulation. A great question to ask yourself to determine if you are an introvert or an extrovert is to ask yourself “How do I relax after a difficult day?” Do I prefer to spend time with a lot of people to de-stress or would I rather enjoy my favorite show and a glass of wine at home with my family. If you answered yes to the second option, then you are an introvert. Introverts can be very social but find that too much time with too many people is draining. Introverts can be the life of the party but again, they find this draining after a while whereas extroverts find this energizing. Introverts tend to be very self-aware of themselves and their surroundings, noticing small details. They tend to be critical of themselves. Introverts take comfort in time alone. All these factors may be why so many influential people are in fact introverts. These character traits may allow for further introspection and idea development. Introverts work well independently which may also be why so many are entrepreneurs. Who better to be their own boss than an introvert?!

So, next time you think of success tied solely to extroverts, remind yourself that the world is being run quite successfully by introverts. And all you introverts out there, allow this to be inspiration to continue on your path to greatness, after you enjoy your Saturday night at home with a great book and a glass of wine.
