Kate Schleyer, LCSW, has a Bachelor’s of Social Work from Western Illinois University, a Master’s of Social Work from University of Illinois at Chicago, and an Advanced Certificate in School Mental Health from Loyola University.  Her passion is working with children.  In addition to being an outpatient therapist, Kate has been a school social worker in an elementary school for over twenty years.  She specializes in supporting children with developmental disabilities, autism, ADHD, and anxiety.  Her clinical work is child-centered, strength-based, and play-based, using play as a modality to work on emotional regulation, social skills, and self-confidence.  Kate is passionate about helping children recognize their strengths by using play, art, and mindfulness, and she strives to create a warm, fun, and playful therapy environment.  Her therapy approach is inspired by Fred Rogers: “play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning.  But for children, play is serious learning.”  Kate is a dog lover whose house is filled with books, arts, crafts, and toys.  She loves doing arts and crafts with her family and friends.
