Marina Theisen is a clinical intern at Alder Grove Counseling, currently working toward her Master of Arts in Counseling at Bradley University. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Illinois State University. Marina brings a warm, client centered approach to her work and she has experience working with a wide range of age groups, including young children, teens, and adults. Her areas of focus include anxiety, self-esteem, social skills, life changes, trauma, and self-harm. 


Marina has a particular passion for helping children and teens navigate and understand their emotions while improving social connections, and self-esteem. Marina is also interested in supporting adults, particularly those with OCD and Bipolar disorders. Her clinical experience includes working at a community mental health clinic, where she assisted clients in managing crisis recovery. 


Marina incorporates evidence-based therapies like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into her work, using a compassionate and individualized approach with each client. She also believes in the importance of practicing mindfulness to stay grounded, which she uses as a tool both personally and professionally.


Outside of her work, Marina enjoys staying busy with creative hobbies such as pottery, crocheting, playing the guitar, and collecting plants. She loves spending time with her cat, Rosie, and is a passionate advocate for increasing inclusivity and diversity in the mental health field.
