Lauren Savickas is an intern at Alder Grove Counseling, with a passion for supporting individuals through life’s transitions and challenges. She works with a diverse range of clients, including young children, tweens, teens, young adults, and student-athletes, helping them navigate issues such as anxiety, stress, depression, self-esteem, and social skills. Lauren also specializes in supporting individuals facing chronic illness, life changes, academic or work-related struggles, and friendship challenges.
Currently pursuing her Master's in Clinical Psychology at Benedictine University, Lauren holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from North Central College. Her educational background, combined with her personal experience as a former track athlete and mentor on the Women’s Track and Field team at North Central, informs her holistic approach to therapy. Lauren’s time as a mentor allowed her to assist student-athletes, particularly freshmen, with the transition to college life, balance academics with personal well-being, and connect with resources for academic and emotional support.
Lauren is particularly interested in expanding her expertise in perinatal/postpartum mental health and infertility support, areas where she is dedicated to learning and growing. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in client-centered therapy, emphasizing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence. She also integrates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques, focusing on emotional regulation and mindfulness, as well as using play and art therapy to support young clients.
An active member of Psi Chi, the Psychology Honors Society, Lauren is committed to reducing the stigma surrounding mental health. She believes that mental health care should be compassionate, accessible, and tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Lauren values wellness as a balance of self-empowerment, support, and an ongoing commitment to creating a stigma-free environment for all.
When she’s not working with clients, Lauren enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and her dog, traveling, and staying active.
