Lizzy Tennison is an empathetic and dedicated master's level intern at Alder Grove Counseling, specializing in working with teens, young adults, and adults. She is passionate about supporting clients through anxiety, worry, grief and loss, and major life transitions. Lizzy has particular experience helping new moms navigate the challenges of perinatal and postpartum issues, including postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety (PPA). She also has a deep understanding of grief—both from the loss of loved ones and the grieving process associated with relationship changes, including divorce. Her therapeutic approach blends solution-focused, psychodynamic, and relational techniques, which she tailors to meet each individual’s needs.
Lizzy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Saint Xavier University, with a minor in Social Work, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Social Work at Aurora University. With experience in community mental health, Lizzy has worked with older adults transitioning out of nursing facilities and has provided crisis counseling to stabilize individuals in mental health crises. Her previous internship at Rush University Medical Center involved supporting patients and families on Labor and Delivery, in the NICU, and in antepartum care.
Outside of her work as a social worker, Lizzy is a book lover, a hot yoga enthusiast, and an avid walker with her yellow lab. She enjoys trying out new board games with friends and cherishes time with her family.
